Core definition and application
Main application: To detect the thickness of fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP) core rods or insulation layers of composite insulators (such as line insulators, electrical equipment insulation tie rods, etc.) during operation or before leaving the factory. The purpose is to assess whether its mechanical strength and insulation performance meet the standards, and to determine if there are any internal defects, cracks, wear or erosion.
Common measurement principles and techniques
This type of instrument usually adopts non-contact or micro-contact non-destructive testing technology to ensure that the insulator itself is not damaged.
Principle: Utilizing the reflection of ultrasonic pulses. The probe emits ultrasonic waves, measures the time it takes for them to travel from the material surface to the back (or defect area) and then return, and calculates the thickness based on the speed of sound.
Advantages: Mature technology, high precision, and suitable for various materials.
Key points: It is necessary to know the exact sound velocity of the insulating material being tested, and the surface should have good coupling (usually using a coupling agent).
Technical features and requirements
High precision and resolution: Usually, a resolution of 0.1mm or even higher is required.
Insulation and safety design: The equipment itself should be equipped with insulated handles or enclosures, meeting the requirements of power safety tools to ensure the safety of operators near high-voltage environments.
Data recording and output: Modern devices typically have functions such as storage, Bluetooth /Wi-Fi data transmission, and connection to mobile phone apps to generate reports.
Environmental adaptability: It should be capable of stable operation in outdoor environments with temperature differences and a certain degree of electromagnetic interference.
Probe diversity: Equipped with probes of different frequencies and sizes to accommodate various curvatures (such as the root of the insulator umbrella skirt) and materials.
